Not always. Most commercial carpet tiles are designed to be loose-laid using tackifier, a pressure-sensitive adhesive that stays slightly tacky rather than setting hard. This holds the tiles firmly in place while still allowing you to lift and replace individual tiles later, which is the main reason offices choose tiles in the first place. Full permanent adhesive is usually reserved for ramps, stairs, very heavy traffic routes and areas with high castor use. On raised access floors, tackifier is almost always the right choice so panels can still be lifted for cabling. Always follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions for the range you buy, as the recommended method varies.

The honest answer is that visible seams are the main trade-off. On plain colours in particular, a grid of joins can be noticeable under strong natural light, though patterned ranges and laying patterns such as quarter turn or ashlar disguise this well. Cheaper tiles can also curl at the edges or show shading differences between dye lots, which is why ordering everything in one go and keeping a few spares back is worth doing. Carpet in general holds more dust than hard flooring and needs regular vacuuming, and it is not the right choice for kitchens, washrooms or entrances where water is a factor.
